After a 2 week road trip in July 2003, we decided to look for a motor home, hoping to purchase one in early to mid 2004.  Well, you know how things go.  What we wanted was a lot more expensive than we could afford, so we decided on used, not new.  Well when a deal comes along.....

We found this while driving down a street we drive on several times a week.  An individual was selling and we just had to buy it.  It is a 1992 Kountry Star manufactured by Newmar.  It is 37 1/2 feet long and is a diesel pusher (meaning the engine is in the rear) and has only been driven just over 22,000 miles.  Under the front hood is a 7.5KWH quiet diesel generator.  With a 90 gallon fuel tank, we should be able to drive to California or Georgia with only one fuel stop either way.

Although the exterior is a little sun  faded since it has sat out in the weather all it's life, the interior looks very good and everything works.

THE REAL WORLD -- Well that little bit up there was written in 2003 right after we bought the thing.  After 2 years of hard work on it and investing half again what we paid for it, we have a nice motor home.  Don't get me wrong, the motor home was always nice.  It's just that since it sat for so long, everything inside fell apart as soon as we started using it.  We have replaced the carpet (mice & pets), the hot water heater, refrigerator, skylight, most parts on the furnace and the AC's, and many leaks in the roof just to name a few.  The coach is well made, but the components were 12 years old and ready for replacement, caulking dried out or gone and so forth. However, Don's hard work has made it a very nice coach once again.

Ewwh....nasty

The toilet & vanity come out

Some floor rot

Yuk...the insulation will need replacing too

Some reinforcing of the floor joists

A new sub-floor

Cement backer board for less flexing

Isn't this much better!

SEE OUR NEW PAINT JOB....After deciding to sell this coach and get a new one, we found a very affordable paint job was available in Mexico and decided we would get the money spent back in either increased trade in, sale price, or time to sell.
